Preparing for GMX turned out to be a four day extravaganza of caffeine, paint, and frustration. The results were pretty decent, though. I took apart a 1993 IBM, a VCR, and two TVs which proved to be a lot of fun. Elizabeth did some ingenious and intricate work on a bunch of different pieces. Jonathan made a sweet telegraph for his Scout outfit.

We skipped Friday due to not having anything ready and went out to Smyrna to see Zombieland (which was awesome) with a bunch of kids, including poor Chris who was totally unprepared for the clowns and spent part of the movie hunkered down in his seat cursing all of us. Then we went to BJ's and played Beatles Rockband, which was fairly decent.

Saturday=Jet Girl, Tank Girl, and dude in a suit. We got a later start than we would have liked, but still made it to some sweet comic panels. Played some Rockband 1, in which the default band name it gave us was "Killasaurus Gun".

Sunday=Steampunk TF2. We also got a late start, but got to some fun panels including a really good Star Trek one. The Toonami panel was lacking and was mostly people talking about later lineups, well after we all stopped watching it. More Rockband, our new band was called "Breadstick Cart", not nearly as cool. Good con for its first year.

Pictures of us and props live under here. )

Sarah and I watched The Pirates of Silicon Valley the other day and had "Burning Down the House" stuck in our heads for the rest of the day. Had many beers and a lot of fun at karaoke at the Springwater.
Yesterday I talked Trek with one of the eye doctors for far too long.
Now it's time for food and editing.

Paper is finished! Editing will commence followed by sending it in, and then, hopefully, graduating!

Elizabeth and I are tentatively going to GMX next weekend. We would like other people to come with us for a fun time (eh? eh? Christi?). I was wavering on whether or not I actually wanted to go. Then I started reading the costuming thread on the forum. Then Elizabeth and I talked about ideas for forty minutes. Now I need to come up with some other ideas and get started on my main one which is steampunk TF2. Shouldn't be too bad. I have all week and it's not like I have a job.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever hear back from io9 or Marvel...but maybe I'm just being impatient.

Played through Ultimate Alliance 2 with Jonathan, Kevin, and Andrew. While still kinda dumb, the plot was SO much better than Civil War. Also, Hulk + Psylocke = Violence. Tony and Steve are also quite the combo. It's a super fun game.

Hoping to aid Jonathan in preparing for the Navy by being a fitness/workout partner. At any rate I need to get in shape for Halloween. Also, I hope I can get the material I need for my Rachel Summers' outfit.

Sarah and I are going to have a breakfast feast at McDonald's tomorrow morning with my remaining coupons.

Con was this weekend.
Friday, Elizabeth was Sharon Agathon, I was Kara Thrace, and Becca was Six. Becca got loads of attention. We went to a Doctor Who panel, saw a few people we knew, went to one of Sara's panels, and learned a great deal about chiggers.

Saturday, we dressed Jonathan up as Jack Harkness, Elizabeth was the 10th Doctor, and I was Rose Tyler. Made it to the Torchwood panel and some lovely ladies invited us to watch the latest Who episode with them later. Beth showed up! Watched some 4e games. Did a lot of sitting around and reapplying my mascara and eyeliner. Watched the costume contest (Michael won with a super sweet Assassins Creed outfit). Watched new Who and then geeked out like WOAH with the nice ladies. Found Jonathan watching Magic games. Got booze from Paul and Michael's room party. Wandered into zombie band playing and touched jello brains. Helped Paul drunk dial my mom. More booze. Forgot I had taken all kinds of allergy meds so more booze overloaded my system or whatever. Made an ass of myself to Paul. After that all I really did was throw up (my chest is bruised from leaning against the toilet), and funnily enough, that's all Elizabeth did too (her first drunk, actually), except I was helped by Tycho and Elizabeth found her way to Jonathan. Strawberries. Slept in Tycho's room as he is made of awesome and kindness. Went home.

I think Elizabeth and I were still kinda drunk for part of Sunday, because we just kinda lay there and watched TSE again, Shark Attack 3: Megladon (Barrowman, why?), and a shitton of Torchwood, and just generally geeked out while lamenting not being able to eat anything. We were going to be Donna (with back!teimbeetle) and ...hadn't figured that out for con. I was looking forward to the beetle.

At any rate, wtf con? And wtf, self? Most of all, wtf, rtd?

Also, on a mostly unrelated note, I think I'm in love with John Barrowman's voice.

I'm at work. There's a loooong meeting going on (about furniture) and I'm supposed to lay low and do a very specific task on this computer (changing one word in the data base on like 150 images). Problem is, I'm done with it and now am stuck in a cubicle with nothing to do but recheck my work over and over and listen the Scissor Sisters. Could be worse.

I'm going to DM a 4e D&D game for my friends. I hope I don't super suck or anything.

Um, con is coming up and Elizabeth and I still haven't gotten anything together. We pretty much need EVERYTHING for our colonial fatigues. I need a grey coat of awesomeness. Lowes fails at giving me a tardis-sized box. It's time to get in gear and take my business elsewhere.

Also, fandom, I didn't realize I missed you this much. I'm glad I've come back. :D

Tommy guns are awesome. Thank you History Channel. There are all these historians sitting around holding these things, musing about the fact that you can put 100 bullets in someone in 8 seconds. The 20s were neat.

I am also stuffing my face with triscuits.

NYC was fun, though a little overwhelming. We went to the aquarium, Coney Island, Magnolia, Canal St., St. Mark's, as well as just hanging around, babysitting, and going to services on Saturday. I discovered that I really should be a 15 year old boy with interests like mine. I got to see Abby, Chris, Angie, and Ben, which made me really happy since I didn't see them a lot last semester. My purchases amounted to a pair of red and black stripped pants, a leather Biggie-style hat, and an Iron Maiden belt buckle that I haggled the price from 35-40$ to 15$.

(Oh God, Prohibition, my least favorite thing ever.)

Home is good. I'm okay with being here now, the big city helped in that. I've seen POTC3 and Ocean's 13, worked almost a full week, badly torn a fingernail, and been to the gay bar for Sarah's birthday since I've been back. I've also started work on the props for Hypericon (which is next weekend!!!!). Paper mache is fun and I think it's going to work out. The Explorer's body isn't as pointy as it should be, but whatever, it's good enough. I need to get some other things in order and figure out what I'm dressing as the other two days.

Furthermore, my boots are on the way. I'm really excited.
