Chicago was fun. Hung out with Paul and his friends most of the time. Kate and Austin's shindig was fun, but I don't really feel like I totally spent time with anyone but Robert and maybe Ted. Waking up in that tiny hotel room was super confusing though. Didn't know where I was. Also, I was proud of myself for getting from Glen Ellyn to downtown and back again. At one point I was kinda nervous, but I looked down the train car and there were two guys reading the Axis & Allies rule book and another reading Battle Royale. Comforting.

Avatar 3-D IMAX success on Tuesday night. I felt a little sick near the beginning. Don't sit in the third row. Elizabeth and I saw Up in the Air last night, which was good. One day I should update my movie review blog.

Christmas was good. Got some neat stuff including the bag of holding from thinkgeek, a Degobah frog terrarium, a gift certificate to Anthropologie, Special Edition Star Trek Blu-ray, etc. Made a good Christmas mix. Christmas party went well enough. Most of us spent our time standing around talking and laughing it up in the kitchen. Christi's boyfriend is a riot. BJ put both of us in his ugly sweater. A certain member of our party got plastered out of her mind for the first time ever. Whee! Over all, though, it wasn't very Christmasy, except for gift giving.

Need to find a ride to New Years festivities tonight. Should probably get that sorted out.

The 2009 Review )

I have a D&D character to finish, a package to mail, and booze to buy.
Happy New Year!

It's been a while. I'll try to be as brief as possible.

-Working at Vandy again. Fairly mundane data entry. Am working myself out of a job as I am way too efficient with copypastaing. Joanne's retiring tomorrow and after she's gone I really don't know what's going to happen with me. Ah well.

-Halloween was fun, except for Caitlin fracturing her collarbone by dancing too hard the night before. Sarah and I intended to celebrate every night that week, but she ended up failing hard and we only managed three events: Goth Tea Party, Scaryoke, and Halloween Eve. Caitlin was a badass Freddie Mercury for Scaryoke, Sarah was an awesome David Bowie, Elizabeth bailed, and I was Courtney Love. Halloween Eve was spent going to some lame parties and ended up as a dance party back at Sarah and Caitlin's. On Halloween night Elizabeth, Jonathan, Kevin, Andrew, and I went to a bunch of different bars downtown and had a good time. Elizabeth was the Little Prince, Jonathan was Barney Stinson, Kevin was Doc Holiday, Andrew was a Yankees player, and I was a pirate. Recent pictures are here.

-Been watching a lot of football with the boys lately. Jonathan and I fell down on our weekend 5 mile walks. We did a bunch of impulse buying one dull Saturday night a couple of weeks ago.
Waters of Mars was good in a lot of ways, really upsetting in others. I've been watching a lot of old Venture Bros. I love Pete White.
Elizabeth told me she'd call us after work a week ago and I haven't heard from her since.

-FINISHED MY PAPER, SENT IT IN, NOW COLLEGE IS OVER.

-Star Trek rifftrax are really good.

-Thanksgiving was great. Mandy was the only one who didn't make it. Everything was delicious and good. Made delicious bacon dip (recipe here) and pumpkin pie.
Went 5am Black Friday shopping with my dad, mostly just for fun. Also, 7$ bluray copy of The Voyage Home, TDK for 4$, fancy 4 gig flashdrive for 10$, and a giant stack of DVD-Rs for 5$. Best Buy was really well organized, Target was a disaster. Got more things online when I got home, but over all stayed under 100$. :D
I intend to get a camera and a wacom tablet soon, then money spending will be over.

-Upon returning home and checking my email I found this in my inbox:
"World of Warcraft is celebrating its fifth anniversary, and we’re inviting you back to Azeroth to take part in the festivities. Your account has been selected to receive 7 days of FREE game time - simply click below to claim your time and rejoin the adventure."
Goddammit Blizzard. Well, you've just jabbed a needle in my arm, I might as well push down the plunger.

Preparing for GMX turned out to be a four day extravaganza of caffeine, paint, and frustration. The results were pretty decent, though. I took apart a 1993 IBM, a VCR, and two TVs which proved to be a lot of fun. Elizabeth did some ingenious and intricate work on a bunch of different pieces. Jonathan made a sweet telegraph for his Scout outfit.

We skipped Friday due to not having anything ready and went out to Smyrna to see Zombieland (which was awesome) with a bunch of kids, including poor Chris who was totally unprepared for the clowns and spent part of the movie hunkered down in his seat cursing all of us. Then we went to BJ's and played Beatles Rockband, which was fairly decent.

Saturday=Jet Girl, Tank Girl, and dude in a suit. We got a later start than we would have liked, but still made it to some sweet comic panels. Played some Rockband 1, in which the default band name it gave us was "Killasaurus Gun".

Sunday=Steampunk TF2. We also got a late start, but got to some fun panels including a really good Star Trek one. The Toonami panel was lacking and was mostly people talking about later lineups, well after we all stopped watching it. More Rockband, our new band was called "Breadstick Cart", not nearly as cool. Good con for its first year.

Pictures of us and props live under here. )

Sarah and I watched The Pirates of Silicon Valley the other day and had "Burning Down the House" stuck in our heads for the rest of the day. Had many beers and a lot of fun at karaoke at the Springwater.
Yesterday I talked Trek with one of the eye doctors for far too long.
Now it's time for food and editing.

I was kidnapped on Thursday and taken to Memphis and listened to poppunkindienewrock music with Jonathan, Drew, and Drew's brother. 4 bands, I knew one song: "California" by Phantom Planet (I gave them a listen when Jason Schwartzman was still their drummer). I wonder if they're kinda bitter that they always have to play that song. For a long time we thought the opening band was "Paper Elephant" which was a sweet name, but it was "Paper Route" and v. underwhelming. We listened to World War Z and Drew bought me a 40 on the way back. It was a lot of fun. I want to go to shows/concerts more.
Today I had brunch with Ann and her roommate and their mothers at the Puffy Muffin...wtf. PANCAKES AND SAUSAGE.
Neil Patrick Harris kid was not working at Starbucks today.
Hung out with Caitlin, Becca, girl I did not know, Elizabeth, Katie, and Christi. We sat in the park, ate chicken, played tits-in-a-box [1,2,3], and watched batman things. It was actually super fun, a good combination of people.
Listening to all the music on my computer reintroduced me to MSI, among other things. I have obtained their latest album and have been listening to it a whole lot at work. It really helps drown out all the anger making things that happen there.
Have spent last week drawing the cover for Jonathan's comic idea in swanky comic style. Hit a snag on Iron Man last night. Also am making a quilt.
Rewatched most of Venture Bros. too. I forgot how much it rules.
School soon, but I try not to think about it. I have shit to do, like ding 70.

On Thursday the 24th, Sebastian died after three years of loyal service. It wasn't exactly sudden, he had been sick for over a year, but at some point Thursday afternoon his little hard drive just stopped spinning altogether. Despite multiple attempts at reviving him, his illness was too great. Ilu Sebastian <3.
With my recent paycheck I have purchased Hamlet, one of these newfangled, superthin, 80gig monsters. He's okay, I guess. V. shiny.

Saw IMAX Batman (overwhelming and awesome) and Elizabeth (<3!) and I fangirled out about various insignificant things throughout.
Dinged 69...finally.
Am rereading Watchmen because I forgot about half of what happened. Halloween=Rorschach.
Played D&D VERY briefly last weekend. It involved a pony, a kick-ass blond girl, and booze.
Watched The Bunker. It was strange, British, and Jack Davenport-y.
Talked with nice boy who looks like Neil Patrick Harris working at Starbucks who played with Harry and the Potters at a gig.
V. tired.
Gross weather is gross.
Something SUPER WEIRD just happened when lightning struck involving the light above me and the balloon tied to my chair 0.o Halp.

Wow is being a heinous bitch. I don't know if it's because of my lousy interwebs connection, my dying processor, or the just the ridonkulously high population of Org. I needs me a new computer something fierce, though.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to school, but it always seems like as soon as I make up my mind that I'd rather be there than here, I spend time with my friends and don't want to leave them. On Tuesday I went to work with my mom to use Vandy's t3 to see if wow was just acting funny because of the 56k at home. I ended up going to Opry Mills with Rose, Nick, Chris, BJ, and Andrew--later joined by Sarah, Elizabeth, and Christi. I bought a new, gaudy-ass belt, ginormous rainbow hoop earrings, and a blizzard shirt, all from the sale rack. After touching lots of things in the mall, we went to the clubhouse thing above Andrew's giant garage to play rockband. BJ, Chris, Andrew, and I all got fairly intoxicated and started falling all over the place and were generally v. silly. It was a lot of fun.

I have a bunch of little things I want to do before going back. I should make a list. I accomplished one of the two goals I set for myself over break (finishing all of Battlestar) and came close to reaching the other (lvl 55, not quite 60). Oh well!

Pictures live here.

4th of July was fun. Sarah, Elizabeth, and I had the LAMEST water balloon fight in the history of water balloon fights. All the balloons were condom shaped. Despite filling them fully with water they refused to burst properly, so we were basically beating each other with sacks of water. It hurt. We drove to the ballpark and shot off fireworks on the adjacent golf course, which was a lot of fun. We saw a lot of neat firework displays from different areas of town as we drove down Charlotte.

Sunday was Jenny's birthday celebration. We ended up at my house playing Guitar Hero until Kate, Nate, and Elizabeth left. Jenny, Sarah, and I played dress up and went to Goth night at Code Blue, which was actually a lot of fun. We goth danced. We're going back this Sunday and Jenny and I get in free for being Cancers. My mother also returned from Tullahoma on sunday after a week away, during which my dad and I moved my entire room around and ate little else than ham sandwiches mac and cheese respectively. Also, bad movie watching (Queen of the Damned, anyone?)

Tuesday night=OotP movie. Elizabeth, Sarah, and I dressed up. Za=Trelawney, Sarah=Bellatrix, I=Tonks. Saw the movie with Jonathan at midnight. Stylistically I really loved it. The ministry looked BAD ASS. There were things I was upset about, namely the near lack of Snape's Worst Memory and the total lameocity of the end. Also, i feel v. bad for whoever must clean up the Hall of Prophecy. I'd hate to be the first Unspeakable at work the next morning.

Yesterday we attempted to watch Interview and hung out with Jenny, her English boyfriend and a friend of theirs also from England. It was pretty fun. I found and purchased the first Return of Tag and Bink comic at Great Escape. I'm v. excited. Also, my boots came! They kept getting lost in the mail between PA and here and they finally got to meeeeee! I came out of my room at 2 yesterday and there was a box sitting there. I picked it up and walked into the den where my dad was and said "For real!?" and he just laughed at me.

But, to be honest, I'm just waiting until weekend after next. So, costuming...Sirius/Remus/James/Peter (a stuffed rat if we can't find anyone to be him) or Bellatrix/Narcissa/Andromeda? I can't help but think of these things. I need a hobby that I enjoy more than costuming, but I think it'll be hard to find one.

I hate the shift key on this keyboard. It doesn't really work.
Well, that was long and unnecessary. :D

New Year's at Kevin's was a lot of fun. We watched a ton of Metalocalypse, slept for a few hours, and spent 6 and a half hours watching Ninja Warrior on G4. When we went to Jack in the Box on our way to the Jewplex Wyatt managed to lock his keys in his car while it was running. This is the second time he's managed to do this apparently. Caitlin was still in Boston and Nathan was at work the whole time we were at their place. We purchased Snakes on a Plane at midnight and watched it. Sarah spent the next two days at my house and we watched a ton of Clone High with Christi.

Last Friday I went to Caitlin's and had dubious fun...as the last update indicates. We watched a number of movies (Wild Zero, Snakes on a Plane, and From Dusk Til Dawn). Some unfortunate things happened, including the appearance of a hole in my new skirt. Found out I have a roommate this coming semester. Played the Wii. Then I went home.

I held a film festival in my room yesterday and today: The Governess, Small Time Crooks, Star Trek: Nemesis, Where the Buffalo Roam, Vanity Fair, and Rounders. I had more, but I wanted to do something else for a while.

I want to do things.
winterophelia: (Default)
What I got for Christmas?
Sweet digital camera. Nice green sweater. Clone High on DVD! Neat books. Pretty wooden bracelet. Far Side calendar. Pearls. We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions by Bruce Springsteen (it is amazing). Neato tights...and an array of other things that I like.

My mother and I have been going shopping a lot, which is kind of fun. Pretty much the only things I have gotten for me are a strange tic-tac-toe shot glass set (with glass game board??) and these super-awesome shoes (high heels that are this metallic pink-gold color with brownish ribbon accents and a big bow on the strap). I bought a plethora of presents for friends.

Yesterday, I ventured to the Jewplex with Nate where we hung out with Kevin, Christi, Za, Nathan, Caitlin, and Becca...and other people who arrived later. They played with the Wii, we tried to find an available copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special, other people ate the dreaded tira misu that my mom and I couldn't eat more than 1/7th of in a week, and weChristi took a ton of pictures. I played Super Smash Bros. for the first time ever and sucked pretty hardcore. Caitlin went to bed, Christi and Za left, and a whole bunch of people that I was kinda scared of in high school showed up, so Nate and I left and watched Spinal Tap with Kevin at my house. There are pictures of these incidents on facebook.

I miss everyone from college. I can't quite believe that Maya and Alina will not be there. I have the feeling that Abby and I will be sad bastards for a few days.

I should wrap presents tomorrow and mail that thing I have to mail tomorrow...it probably will not get there in time, but oh well.

Be there. yo.

Most importantly, pictures. I stole a few from people (like Caitlin), but most are ones that no one has ever seen!

My birthday wasn't exciting, but it was nice. I was taken out to lunch for yummy Japanese food and to dinner for equally yummy, but more fattening, American food.
Last weekend was v. cramazing (to use Christina's term). Friday, Caitlin and Becca picked me up and we got a ginormous drink at the gas station, got stuck in traffic, talked to Sabrina who was driving a neighboring car, finally got to the bowling alley, and made a comic about the A-Team busting some girl out of prison as we waited for Christi, Kevin, and later Cashon, to show up. Fun was had by all.

Saturday=Hypericon. Us=The crew of Serenity from Firefly. Za picked me up and we went to McDonalds downtown to meet Christi and Caitlin before heading downtown. There was this woman passed out in the drive-thru and it was really scary because we thought she was dead at first. Found the hotel, registered, ran around for a bit, and then went to this panel about costuming on a budget. It was pretty hilarious. During the panel I realized that the only guy sitting on it was in fact my former co-worker Paul (he and his brother sell elf ears etc. at Ren Faires). We all ended up talking to him after the panel until Sarah Brown finally decided to grace us with her presence. We messed around for the rest of the day, pretty much. Met this really awesome guy who tried to recruit people to round out our Serenity crew. Ended up making friends with this awesome woman, Sara Harvey, and her boyfriend Matt who agreed to be our Kaylee and Simon. We pretty much owned the costume contest and won.
Afterwords, something happened that must be documented, despite the questionable nature of said happening. This guy comes over and talks to us about Firefly and MTAC, but it's pretty clear he's just talking to Sarah. Eventually he's kinda squatting in front of her and says he has a shoe fetish. Well, that was a little weird, but we're not strangers to weirdness, so it seemed okay, but then he asked if he could kiss Sarah's shoe. We were slightly more freaked out. Sarah asked Chris if he had a problem with this. The guy jumped back like four or five feet, like he's been roughed up for doing this sort of thing before and is all apologetic about it. Chris, seeing this as an opportunity to get a good laugh, said something like you just want to kiss her shoe, give 'em hell. So Sarah said, okay, and stuck out her foot and the guy kissed he shoe. Then he kissed it again. Then he started making out with it. Caitlin grabbed my leg, her eyes wide open, her face a mask of horror. I just looked at her, I couldn't turn around. Christi hyperventilated for a minute before jumping up equally horrified. Chris laughed a little at the beginning, but then his whole face just dropped. Elizabeth just left. Sarah was all the way back in her seat, freaking out. The guy, after a good 30 seconds, looked up and asked if Sarah was uncomfortable and she said yeah a little. Christi immediately dragged Sarah out for a smoke, the guy left, and we all ran out onto the balcony. We yelled for a while and then Sarah left to wash her shoe. Sara and Matt came to find us and we immediately related the whole story. Shortly after that, Paul burst out onto the balcony dressed as David Bowie from Labyrinth, immediately taking our minds off what had just occurred. We chatted with people for a while, went to the kinda lame dance, and then all went home.

Sunday, Sarah and I went to the closing ceremonies as Dean and Hank Venture and Chris was Brock. Got our winnings and said bye to everybody. Chris, Sarah, Elizabeth, and I fooled around in various Party Cities across the county and then went to Caitlin's house for her Venture Bros. premiere party! I glued brown pipe cleaners to my face and was the Monarch (I also had a costume, so it's not as lame as it sounds). Caitlin was Hank, Sarah was still Dean, Chris was still Brock, Valerie was Dr. Girlfriend, Becca was Triana, and Kevin was Dr. Orpheus. We went to the store, had cake, and watched season 1. After the premiere we went to Cafe Coco. One guy asked us if we were in a band, other than that, nothing. Apparently everyone who hangs out at Cafe Coco is quality television-ignorant. We had fun regardless.

The work week was SLOW. Our boss came back fro Germany right around the same time Rose did. I saw her the day she got back and she, Christi, Blake, and I watched Harvey, which was awesome.

Saturday, as in yesterday, I met up with Rose, Kevin, Bryan, and Cashon at Green Hills and we saw An Inconvenient Truth, which was really scary, amazing, and makes me want to do something to make things better. Go see that movie regardless of your political affiliation, it's really informative. We went to the park to hang out, eat foods, and smoke a tiny hookah (Jonathan was none too happy about that). Kevin, Cashon, and I went to Taco Bell and were generally really silly. Nate came to hang out with us just before Rose and Bryan went to Dark Side of the Rainbow. Minus those two, we hung out in the park for a while, I fell down and hurt my knee rather badly before we met Chris at Coco and hung out there for a while. For lack of anything better to do, we went to Hustler Hollywood and looked at things for a long while. Andrew called and was adorable and silly. Back to Coco, sat on the sidewalk forever making plans, then to Waffle House at 2am, where Bryan came to hang out with us for a while. Walgreen's for cheap cigars, then to my house to smoke said cigars, and sit in the drive way and talk. Chris taught us things about drugs. It was funny. Everyone headed home around 4:30ish.

This entry is really long and stuff. Damn. So anyone up for fun on the 4th?

Friday, fun was had.
Yesterday, lots of fun was had.
Today, work will be done, then, perhaps, a little bit of fun will be had...unless I need to do work...crap, I really want to go to the BSFFA meeting today....I missed it...grr.

Friday, was uber happy when class was over. I have two papers to write...uhg. I need to get started on that. Zeke and Channing gave each other tattoos and then proceeded to draw on me.
those pictures )
We went to a really fun improv show. Went back home and goofed around a little and went to bed.

Saturday, woke up just in time to not make it to lunch aka 1:00ish...maybe it was 1:30? I don't know. Made arrangements to go back to Nashville for both Fall break and for Thanksgiving. Zeke came over and Channing, Cristina, and I joined in on watching the utterly depressing, but v. good film Requiem for a Dream. At dinner, we proceeded to try and do a full casting of the movie using ourselves and our friends. I get to be Harry since my arm, which I gave blood from over a week ago, looks like maybe I'm a heroine addict (here's a picture of my arm...if you're interested). Channing's Sarah, my drugged up mom. Crystal's her best friend who colors her hair orange...I can't remember her name. Christina's Tyrone, my african-american bff (haha). Sarah's Tyrone's mom. Zeke's Marion, my slutty coke-head girlfriend. Celeste's Little John, that really gross guy....we had a few more people cast, but I can't remember. We got silly about the whole thing. Then we watched Office Space, which lightened the mood before we had some soco and and ran around outside. Zeke went to the grocery store and got ice cream, which we ate and made soco floats with. Christina made a shot glass out of an apple, which was interesting. We played with these spinny stick things outside for a while, and then did some yoga. Channing went to bed, we ate more ice cream, went upstairs, Zeke tried to get people to play bloody knuckles with him and I was the only one who took him up on it (my right hand still hurts really bad), at one point we realized that we had left a potato in the oven about an hour or two earlier (it was completely died up, ew), and we just sat around with Allison, Sally, and some other people and talked until it was bed time (3am or so). Zeke pulled Christina outside to show her this huge congregation of ants on the sidewalk. The rest of us followed. It was weird. A few people ate ants. Then we actually went to bed.

some more pictures )

Will say when the radio show starts when I know. I hope it's this week. New stuff on deviant art.
Tonight I'm unsuccessfully making sushi. Should be fun. Infact, I'm supposed to start cooking in about an hour and a half...time flies. I need to call Ann. And Sarah, if she's not busy being too cool for me.
