It's been a nice long while since I've written anything. The problem is there is little to report.
Nate left about a month ago after being here for a month. Elizabeth, Jenny, Andrew, and I went to RenFest. Elizabeth was a leper, I was a viking, and Jenny was a peasant. We all bought our first RenFest ale! It was really fun and we were there most of the day, which turned out to be the hottest weekend (maybe day) in May. Pictures of our costumes here.
Been on a total Jake Gyllenhaal kick for the last two weeks. That boy has been in some craptastic movies, but also some pretty good ones. It began when Elizabeth and I went to Prince of Persia Sunday before last. Jeff from Coupling was in it? So was Alfred Molina? The theater was empty so we got to riff it. I have Yakkity Sax on my phone, so we put that on during fight sequences. It was a lot of fun.
We also saw The A-Team on Friday. It was everything I wanted it to be. Very fun. Sharlto is excellent and adorable.
I need to update my movie blog, pretty much just for my benefit as it serves no other purpose.
Other than that, been sticking around the house, hauling boxes and watching movies. Went to Rose's bridal shower and saw Christi and Sarah as well as Rose. It was odd and a little surreal. Oh well.
Soon I will be 23. Then I will go to a fancy cabin with Jenny and other people. After that I will visit Chicago and hopefully see Iron Maiden with Nate. Maybe I will make it up to Madison.

I doodled while Elizabeth and I watched, God help us, The Day After Tomorrow.
I give you Dennis Quail and other things )
Further updates to follow.

Dear Steadicam,
You never call, you never write. I am worried sick. Where are you? I thought I saw you last fall in Book of Eli, but you went away before I could stop you. I just want you to know that it's okay, you can come back whenever you want. I'm tired of not being able to tell what's going on in an action sequence. I'm also tired of wanting to vomit every time I go to the theater. I'm sorry The Bourne Identity ever happened. I didn't know it would drive you away.
I--I love you. Maybe see you around soon, like in Inception? I know you don't like being around Christopher Nolan all that much, but maybe? Stay well, old friend.
Love, Me

So, Nashville got flooded like woah. The comic book store I always go to is closed due to 2 ft of water in the store. :( I should have gone liberating comics and booze from the local liquor store that had nearly 8 ft of water in it. All the liquor was just floating out into the parking lot.
Nate's visiting. We took a bunch of stuff to the humane society last week. Unfortunately we had to go to a series of family functions over the weekend, so we didn't get to participate in the huge volunteer effort that Hands on Nashville mounted.
Elizabeth flipped over on the interstate weekend before last. She's fine and mostly pissed off that she wrecked the car and that we couldn't go to MTAC. She was dressed as a Guitar Wolf zombie when she had the wreck.

I need to get a move on with my RenFest costume. Shouldn't be too hard. Just a tunic and an apron. And dyeing tights. Shield is optional at this point.

Also, pictures are here.

That's all I have right now.

I'm temporarily unemployed and it's pretty refreshing. Now I can stay out til all hours playing endless games of Monopoly, wake up at 10:30 and play WoW forever. However, soon the great reorganization will commence and I'll be online selling used books.

Currently I'm gearing up to make two costumes: one for the Ren Fest and another for my surprise relatively last minute decision to attend MTAC. Since everyone who attends the Ren Fest is dressed a few centuries too late, why not dress too early to balance them out? Viking costume. :D For MTAC I'm attempting Noin's fancy Sanc Kingdom outfit. I had a hard time figuring out any anime I still really like, let alone any females I'd like to dress up as. If only I still had long hair then I could easily be Duo...except in 8th grade I had way less boobs than I do now. At any rate, I've been re-watching Gundam Wing. This show is silly and full of fifteen year old sociopaths.
I'm excited about these projects.
Maybe too excited...
I need to upload some recent photography.

Today one of my best friends left for OCS, I woke up with hives, and my boss told me I was being laid off. Bad day.
Now I have to get ready for our first softball game that starts at 9:45 in Antioch. I just want to go to sleep.

St. Patty's was fun. I had a beer shaped bottle of Jameson that threw everyone off. BJ helped me decorate Andrew's club house with lots of green things. Played poker and Rockband. :D

Saturday night Elizabeth and I didn't know what to do so we just drove downtown. Ended up walking around with Jonathan, Nick, and Andrew and going to a free alt. rock/metal show at the hair metal bar on 2nd Ave. A girl wearing a black strapless bra, fishnets, and leopard panties and covered with promotional body art for the band's label fetched Elizabeth and me from the back of the bar and took us to the very front of the stage where we were immediately showered with beer flying off of the lead singer's drenched head. It was a good time.

Jonathan and I watched New Moon with rifftrax Monday night. It was hilarious. I think we enjoyed the actual movie a little too much, but it would be hilarious sans rifftrax. About halfway through I couldn't remember if Robert Pattinson was attractive or not. Then he showed up and took off his shirt. The answer is: No. No he is not.

Last night we went over to Jonathan's and drew in his street.

Time to put on my catching gear and watch Rachel Maddow.

Some garbledegook that turned into me discussing people's handling of their own and others' political viewpoints )

I hardcore still miss the Olympics. It's been like, three weeks or something, right?
Paul visited this past weekend. We went to the mall so I could get a catching helmet from the sports store that's going out of business. Ended up also buying a Maiden sweatshirt, a Turisas shirt, and day-glo orange shoelaces all at half price. Paul bought a knife blade missing its handle for 98 cents. I hope Paul comes back through post Tucson.
Today I bought things to make Jonathan a going away present. I also bought a novelty beer hat, a small bottle of Jameson, and a little boy's shirt designed by Shaun White that looks like it has Tom Petty on it. I like buying things. I need to stop that.
I'm going to jump on the volunteer wagon this summer and do as many things as I can.
Maiden is touring this summer. Chicago July 18th. I will be there. Also, new album.
I need to work on the comic book.
Now is the time for sleep. Tomorrow, drinking!

(11:29:07 PM) SpamBoy999: no reason to lie about who you are

I have absolutely nothing to report.

Men's figure skating is so stressful. I spent much of the night freaking out about Evan Lysacek, and then being super disappointed that Johnny Weir (in his Northstar costume) didn't place higher. Seriously, Gaga is not pleased. Jonathan did send me a link to the Top Gun anthem when Lysacek won. At least I have a day to recuperate before flipping out about the men's speed skating relay with my other Olympic man. Furthermore, I think Shaun White had a brief cameo appearance in my dream last night. Too much Olympics.

Went out for Fat Tuesday with friends and felt like we were all adults for the first time in a while. When you've known everyone you hang out with for at least 7 years and nearly all of them still live with their parents, it can be difficult to feel like an adult. We ordered two bottles of red wine and watched figure skating and talked loudly.

After this work week I am going to get a new camera then I am done spending money.
This weekend Jonathan and I start walking again. Yay exercise.
Soon it is time for sleep.

Alexander McQueen is dead. This is so thoroughly depressing.
winterophelia: (Default)
I suppose updating is in order, despite having little to report.
First of all, RIP Howard Zinn. Nearly everyone I highly admire is dead.

New Years was pretty fun, though there was a tiny bit of drama. Pictures on the facebooks.
Gone to an assortment of free movies as of late: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Leap Year, Book of Eli, and A Single Man (two times). Sarah and I had the worst time trying to see A Single Man together. We failed two nights in a row once because all the electricity to Green Hills Mall had gone out and the other because Regal fails hard. We finally made it the third night. I still need to see Sherlock Holmes. It's weird that I haven't seen it yet, given how much I <3 RDJ.
Tentatively going to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Oh, and Jonathan, Andrew, and I won trivia last weekend. 50$ in gift certificates to the bar. Team name: Coo-Coo for CoCo. It was really exciting.
Watched Spinal Tap again.
Re-watched all of LOTR: Extended Edition. It's so brilliant.
Went the most bar-y bar ever for Chris's birthday.

Mostly I'm waiting for Nate to come back from hanging out with monks in Iowa so we can work on this comic project. So I suppose I'll be going back up to Chicago in March.

This cheese isn't too good. Kinda tastes like the inside of a shoe. I'm still eating it.
One last thing, updated some blogs, including a rundown on my small record collection here, which was mostly just fun to do. Soon I will update my blog about Robert Downey Jr.'s hair. Then it will be clear that I totally have too much free time on my hands and should start playing WoW again.
I thought being snowed in would make me more productive. Nope!
winterophelia: (Default)
Chicago was fun. Hung out with Paul and his friends most of the time. Kate and Austin's shindig was fun, but I don't really feel like I totally spent time with anyone but Robert and maybe Ted. Waking up in that tiny hotel room was super confusing though. Didn't know where I was. Also, I was proud of myself for getting from Glen Ellyn to downtown and back again. At one point I was kinda nervous, but I looked down the train car and there were two guys reading the Axis & Allies rule book and another reading Battle Royale. Comforting.

Avatar 3-D IMAX success on Tuesday night. I felt a little sick near the beginning. Don't sit in the third row. Elizabeth and I saw Up in the Air last night, which was good. One day I should update my movie review blog.

Christmas was good. Got some neat stuff including the bag of holding from thinkgeek, a Degobah frog terrarium, a gift certificate to Anthropologie, Special Edition Star Trek Blu-ray, etc. Made a good Christmas mix. Christmas party went well enough. Most of us spent our time standing around talking and laughing it up in the kitchen. Christi's boyfriend is a riot. BJ put both of us in his ugly sweater. A certain member of our party got plastered out of her mind for the first time ever. Whee! Over all, though, it wasn't very Christmasy, except for gift giving.

Need to find a ride to New Years festivities tonight. Should probably get that sorted out.

The 2009 Review )

I have a D&D character to finish, a package to mail, and booze to buy.
Happy New Year!

Not whole lot to report. Work all week. Go to trivia on Sunday. Repeat.
Jonathan, Elizabeth, and I went to Boondock Saints 2 and ended up really enjoying it.
Decorated the lawn for the holidays for the first time in forever.
Been on a serious Maiden bender for a while. Steve Harris is the most adorable ever.
In Chicago for a week now. Yaaaay!

I need better fodder for my lj entries.
winterophelia: (Default)
It's been a while. I'll try to be as brief as possible.

-Working at Vandy again. Fairly mundane data entry. Am working myself out of a job as I am way too efficient with copypastaing. Joanne's retiring tomorrow and after she's gone I really don't know what's going to happen with me. Ah well.

-Halloween was fun, except for Caitlin fracturing her collarbone by dancing too hard the night before. Sarah and I intended to celebrate every night that week, but she ended up failing hard and we only managed three events: Goth Tea Party, Scaryoke, and Halloween Eve. Caitlin was a badass Freddie Mercury for Scaryoke, Sarah was an awesome David Bowie, Elizabeth bailed, and I was Courtney Love. Halloween Eve was spent going to some lame parties and ended up as a dance party back at Sarah and Caitlin's. On Halloween night Elizabeth, Jonathan, Kevin, Andrew, and I went to a bunch of different bars downtown and had a good time. Elizabeth was the Little Prince, Jonathan was Barney Stinson, Kevin was Doc Holiday, Andrew was a Yankees player, and I was a pirate. Recent pictures are here.

-Been watching a lot of football with the boys lately. Jonathan and I fell down on our weekend 5 mile walks. We did a bunch of impulse buying one dull Saturday night a couple of weeks ago.
Waters of Mars was good in a lot of ways, really upsetting in others. I've been watching a lot of old Venture Bros. I love Pete White.
Elizabeth told me she'd call us after work a week ago and I haven't heard from her since.

-FINISHED MY PAPER, SENT IT IN, NOW COLLEGE IS OVER.

-Star Trek rifftrax are really good.

-Thanksgiving was great. Mandy was the only one who didn't make it. Everything was delicious and good. Made delicious bacon dip (recipe here) and pumpkin pie.
Went 5am Black Friday shopping with my dad, mostly just for fun. Also, 7$ bluray copy of The Voyage Home, TDK for 4$, fancy 4 gig flashdrive for 10$, and a giant stack of DVD-Rs for 5$. Best Buy was really well organized, Target was a disaster. Got more things online when I got home, but over all stayed under 100$. :D
I intend to get a camera and a wacom tablet soon, then money spending will be over.

-Upon returning home and checking my email I found this in my inbox:
"World of Warcraft is celebrating its fifth anniversary, and we’re inviting you back to Azeroth to take part in the festivities. Your account has been selected to receive 7 days of FREE game time - simply click below to claim your time and rejoin the adventure."
Goddammit Blizzard. Well, you've just jabbed a needle in my arm, I might as well push down the plunger.

I COMPLETELY FORGOT WATERS OF MARS AIRED YESTERDAY. GAAAAHHHHH.

Preparing for GMX turned out to be a four day extravaganza of caffeine, paint, and frustration. The results were pretty decent, though. I took apart a 1993 IBM, a VCR, and two TVs which proved to be a lot of fun. Elizabeth did some ingenious and intricate work on a bunch of different pieces. Jonathan made a sweet telegraph for his Scout outfit.

We skipped Friday due to not having anything ready and went out to Smyrna to see Zombieland (which was awesome) with a bunch of kids, including poor Chris who was totally unprepared for the clowns and spent part of the movie hunkered down in his seat cursing all of us. Then we went to BJ's and played Beatles Rockband, which was fairly decent.

Saturday=Jet Girl, Tank Girl, and dude in a suit. We got a later start than we would have liked, but still made it to some sweet comic panels. Played some Rockband 1, in which the default band name it gave us was "Killasaurus Gun".

Sunday=Steampunk TF2. We also got a late start, but got to some fun panels including a really good Star Trek one. The Toonami panel was lacking and was mostly people talking about later lineups, well after we all stopped watching it. More Rockband, our new band was called "Breadstick Cart", not nearly as cool. Good con for its first year.

Pictures of us and props live under here. )

Sarah and I watched The Pirates of Silicon Valley the other day and had "Burning Down the House" stuck in our heads for the rest of the day. Had many beers and a lot of fun at karaoke at the Springwater.
Yesterday I talked Trek with one of the eye doctors for far too long.
Now it's time for food and editing.
winterophelia: (Default)
Paper is finished! Editing will commence followed by sending it in, and then, hopefully, graduating!

Elizabeth and I are tentatively going to GMX next weekend. We would like other people to come with us for a fun time (eh? eh? Christi?). I was wavering on whether or not I actually wanted to go. Then I started reading the costuming thread on the forum. Then Elizabeth and I talked about ideas for forty minutes. Now I need to come up with some other ideas and get started on my main one which is steampunk TF2. Shouldn't be too bad. I have all week and it's not like I have a job.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever hear back from io9 or Marvel...but maybe I'm just being impatient.

Played through Ultimate Alliance 2 with Jonathan, Kevin, and Andrew. While still kinda dumb, the plot was SO much better than Civil War. Also, Hulk + Psylocke = Violence. Tony and Steve are also quite the combo. It's a super fun game.

Hoping to aid Jonathan in preparing for the Navy by being a fitness/workout partner. At any rate I need to get in shape for Halloween. Also, I hope I can get the material I need for my Rachel Summers' outfit.

Sarah and I are going to have a breakfast feast at McDonald's tomorrow morning with my remaining coupons.
winterophelia: (Default)
Sunday night, when we were downtown, a man who called himself the "Street Poet" recited some stuff for Elizabeth and myself. It was interesting.
We also found an 80s hair metal bar that is really sharp and clean, despite the totally shady entrance up two flights of creepily lit, graffitied stairs.

Today I ate a grilled cheese sandwich, watched TF2 videos, went to Costco, and looked at the internet some more. This is just getting sad.

In which I attempt to motivate myself... )

Okay, look at /pco/ and then go to sleep, day waster.
winterophelia: (Default)
I was going through the 9/11 comic tonight and I found some things I felt like sharing.
Here they are. )

That is all. Back to my regularly scheduled paper.
winterophelia: (Default)
Long time no post.
First I'd like to say I have renewed hope about health care reform and reaching accross the aisle and all that jazz, though a lot of the Repubs looked like a bunch of assholes throughout the whole address.

In the last month I've procrastinated on my paper a lot. You know the one I need to write and then I'll be done with college? The one I should just do and it'll be over? That one. I was starting to work on it...

Then last week Mike, Nate, and Trevor showed up in Nashville. It was excellent.
Nate and Trevor stayed here and mostly usurped my computers to play games, though they did an awesome amount of yard work for my mom and fixed our knocked down fence. Even put a gate in it. Fed a duck around about two dozen Canada Geese in the park. Played lava monster tag in Dragon park.
Mike decided to stay here instead of at Sarah and Caitlin's when Nate and Trevor's friend Abby came down. Mike and I took her around a bunch of places. Then we hunted for the Orange Box and ended up spending much of the rest of the week playing video games. It was a lot like college in the video games/not going outside/lying in piles/eating large burgers way...which is the part I miss a lot. Trevor and I played Portal until 5am, taking waaay too long to beat it. TF2 was nearly everything I wanted it to be.
I sadly missed Katie's shindig, which reports tell me was somewhere from "awesomest evar" to "a roller coaster of fun and not fun".

I've been kinda bummed out since those kids left. Pretty sure my second least favorite thing is saying goodbye to college people (least favorite thing still being throwing up). I'm now powering through my paper so I have nothing preventing me from doing whatever comes up, whether it's going to Texas or killing copious amounts of time visiting people in Chicago and Madison or going on an urban renewal program in Europe.
The research is about done. Writing starts tomorrow. It will be done by Friday night.

Further updates to follow.
